Senior System Administrator with 25 years of experience. Currently leading technical project management for IT Infrastructure transformation and Data Center IT Management and Operations.

A byte of history

Starting from custom pc hardware assembly, structured cabling infrastructure installations and then moving to a support engineer position for 1st and 2nd level helpdesk for a financial institution. Soon after I started working as a system and network administrator, managing physical and virtual servers on a mostly windows environment, as well as configuring routers, switches and firewalls. During this role I started taking on more responsibilities as a team leader and later as an IT manager.

The last few years I moved from the financial sector to energy. Currently I provide consulting as a System Administrator managing IT Infrastructure – new server installation-migration, storage and backup management across multiple platforms (Linux & Windows), virtualization platforms and Cloud Infrastructure. Data Center Operations are also part of my responsibilities, having an overview of capacity, power/cooling and most importantly availability for all the Data Centers and Computer Rooms of the organization. I also consult other clients on IT, network design and security.

Technologies

I have worked on all major virtualization platforms VMware, Oracle KVM (ovirt), OracleVM, Hyper-V. Also all the range of Microsoft products both On prem and Cloud, ADDS, Azure AD, Exchange Server and M365 as well as management software like SCCM-WSUS and WAC. Furthermore, I have a strong experience on Linux OS (RedHat/Oracle, Ubuntu/Debian) and software like Apache, HAproxy, NGINX, BiND DNS and PowerDNS.

Other software I use are Paessler PRTG, Solarwinds, Splunk, Graylog, Zabbix. Over the years i was also involved on DB installation and management for OracleDB, MS SQL and MySQL/MariaDB. Lately i am interested on Ansible and Terraform.

Finally I am familiar with a wide range of hardware like Cisco Routers-Switches-PIX/ASA-UCS Servers, HP/Aruba Switches, Watchguard and Fortigate Firewalls, Barracuda Appliances, Alcatel PBX, EMC Storages and Data Domain, HP/IBM tape libraries and servers from IBM, HP and DELL.

Skills

Skilled problem identifier and troubleshooter, with strong “people” and communication skills. Able to work independently and as part of a team. Patient and eager, curious but careful and respectful on both people and systems.
